The library has over 400,000 books covering topics from aarvarks to zymurgy. Most of our books are in subjects which are taught at the university, such as European history, marine biology, business, textiles, marketing, art and so forth.
The library's books are divided into collections. Here are the major ones:
- Browsing Collection, located on the first floor, include current best sellers and recent publications on various topics such as social and political issues, health, computers, etc...
- General Collections are on the fourth and fifth floors. They are arranged by subject and classified by the same system used by the Library of Congress and most every major academic library in the country.
- Reference Books, which are not available for loan, are on the second floor, and include encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks and directories.
- Reserve Books, heavily used materials and assigned readings for classes, are on the first floor.
- Special Collections, rare books and valuable books, are on the fourth floor and can be used only under supervision.
To find out what books are in the library, use Voyager the online catalog. There are terminals in the library (and always someone to help!).
