Massachusetts Politics

Beacon Hill Institute is affiliated with the Department of Economics at Suffolk University.  It states that it is “grounded in the principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility and free markets.”  

Donahue Institute “is the public service, outreach and economic development unit of the University of Massachusetts President's Office.”

Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center “provides independent research and analysis of state budget and tax policies, as well as economic issues, that affect low- and moderate-income people in Massachusetts.”

Massachusetts Taxpayers Association states its “mission is to provide accurate, unbiased research with balanced, thoughtful recommendations that strengthen the state's finances and economy in order to foster the long-term well being of the Commonwealth.”

MassInc. is self-described as an “independent, nonpartisan research and educational institute.”  They publish a wealth of information about Massachusetts politics and political issues.  They also publish the Massachusetts political magazine titled CommonWealth, which is available online after a free registration. 

Pioneer Institute is a Massachusetts think tank that claims to be “committed to individual freedom and responsibility, limited and accountable government, and the application of free market principles to state and local policy.”

Rappaport Institute for Greater Boston, Kennedy School of Government provides online access to reports, policy briefs, working papers, and more.  Rappaport states that it “strives to improve the governance of Greater Boston by strengthening connections between the region’s scholars, students, and civic leaders.”

UMass Boston's Graduate School of Policy Studies publishes online reports originating in its centers.  These “research centers within the Graduate School focus on State and Local Policy, Social Policy, Women in Politics and Public Policy, Gerontology, Media and Society and Democracy and Development.  The Graduate School of Policy Studies also publishes the New England Journal of Policy Studies.

UMass Dartmouth Center for Policy Analysis “offers custom designed research and technical analysis in the areas of economic development, public management, program evaluation and public opinion research for government agencies, non-profit organizations, private businesses, and educational institutions.” It is a source of information on issues important to SouthCoast residents and organizations.
