ABI/INFORM Global (ProQuest) - Business and management database providing extensive coverage of North America and internationally. Full text of 600+ journals, cumulative indexing/abstracting from 1970s onward of 1,500 total journals on business conditions, economics, trends, corporate strategies/tactics, management and marketing techniques, economics, human resources, finance, taxation, computers, as well as information on 60,000+ companies.

ABI/INFORM Trade & Industry (ProQuest) - Search more than 750 business periodicals and newsletters with a trade or industry focus. Provides users with the latest industry news, product and competitive information, marketing trends, and a wide variety of other topics. Contains publications on every major industry, including finance, insurance, transportation, construction, and many more.

Abstracts in Social Gerontology (EBSCO) - includes bibliographic records covering essential areas related to social gerontology, including the psychology of aging, elder abuse, society and the elderly, and other areas of key relevance to the discipline.

Academic OneFile (InfoTrac) - A good general source for news and periodical articles on a wide range of topics: business, computers, current events, economics, education, environmental issues, health care, hobbies, humanities, law, literature and art, politics, science, social sciences, sports, technology, and many general interest topics. Accounting & Tax (ProQuest) - Indexing/abstracts and selected full text of key journals, newspapers and periodicals. Known as "the quintessential accountant's database." Includes policies, standards and interpretations, tax legislation, compensation, financial management, etc.

Accounting & Tax Newspapers (ProQuest) - Search newspapers for the latest accounting and tax news.

Accounting & Tax Periodicals (ProQuest) - Based on the Accountants' Index, this tool for professionals provides current accounting, taxation, and financial management information. National and international in scope, key publications focus on accounting policies and standards, state and national tax legislation, corporate and individual taxation, compensation and pension plans, and corporate financial management, as well as profiles of accounting firms, CPAs, and management consulting firms.

ACM Digital Library (Association for Computing Machinery) - Search and find bibliographic information, abstracts, reviews, and full-text for articles published in ACM periodicals and proceedings since 1985, including works published by affiliated organizations.

AGRICOLA (AGRICultural OnLine Access) - is a machine-readable database of bibliographic records created by the National Agricultural Library and its cooperators.

Alt-Press Watch (ProQuest) - A full text database comprised of the newspapers, magazines and journals of the alternative and independent press.

America: History & Life (EBSCO) - America History and Life provides extensive coverage of the history and culture of America and Canada from "prehistory to the present." It includes journal articles, dissertations, and book reviews published since 1954. Abstracts are provided for most journal article citations.

America’s News Magazines (Newsbank) - Coverage of U.S. and international news, business, lifestyle, entertainment, sports, and science and technology from familiar magazines

Analytical Abstracts (RSC) - "...is the only abstracting service designed specifically to meet analytical chemistry information needs. It provides comprehensive coverage of new techniques and applications." 1980 to present."

Anthropological Literature (OCLC FirstSearch) - Comprehensive international resource for the fields of anthropology, archaeology and related interdisciplinary research.

AnthroSource (U of Cal Press) - is a searchable database of full-text articles from 32 journals, including current issues of 15 peer-reviewed American Anthropological Association publications.

Applied Science & Technology Index (H.W.Wilson) - "covers more than 480 core English-language scientific and technical publications. Topics include engineering, acoustics, chemistry, computers, metallurgy, physics, plastics, telecommunications, transportation, and waste management."

Art Index (H.W.Wilson) - is the basic periodical index in art. It indexes the contents of about 300 journals, mostly in English, in all areas of art, architecture, and design published since 1984. Art Index Retrospective extends the coverage back to 1929, but is available only in the library.

ARTbibliographies Modern (CSA) - Abstracts of journal articles, books, essays, exhibition catalogs, dissertations, and exhibition reviews. Covers many aspects of modern and contemporary art, including performance art and installation works, video art, computer and electronic art, body art, graffiti, artists' books, theater arts, crafts, jewelry, illustration, and more, as well as the traditional fine arts of painting, printmaking, sculpture, and drawing. Bibliography of the History of Art (OCLC FirstSearch) - BHA is an extensive index to the literature of western art history from the end of the ancient world to the present. It includes books and exhibition catalogs as well as journal articles.

Biosis Previews (OVID) - the world's most comprehensive reference database in the life sciences. It covers original research reports and reviews in biological and biomedical areas.

BooksinPrint.com - Contains over 3.5 million title records with 165,000 records on publishers, distributors, wholesalers and book agents. It also includes information on award winners, bestsellers, over 500,000 full-text reviews and inventory data from 19 well-known wholesalers.

CINAHL Plus with Full Text (EBSCO) - Provides indexing and abstracting for nursing and allied health journals, providing full text for more than 560 journals indexed in CINAHL. The database contains 600,000 full-text articles dating back to 1937, as well as searchable cited references, legal cases, clinical innovations. critical paths, drug records, research instruments and clinical trials. Areas covered by the database include nursing, biomedicine, health sciences librarianship, alternative complementary medicine, consumer health and 17 allied health disciplines.

Cochrane Collection, The (EBSCO) - provides access to high quality evidence based research, which is used in clinical and health management decision-making. The Cochrane Collection consists of three sections that can be searched separately:

  • Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR)- Contains full text systematic reviews, as well as protocols, focusing on the effects of healthcare. Data is evidence-based medicine and is often combined statistically (with meta-analysis) to increase the power of the findings of numerous studies, each too small to produce reliable results individually.
  • Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness (DARE) - Includes abstracts of published systematic reviews on the effects of health care from around the world, which have been critically analyzed according to a high standard of criteria. This database provides access to quality reviews in subjects for which a Cochrane review may not yet exist.
  • Cochrane Controlled Trials Register - A bibliography of controlled trials identified by contributors to the Cochrane Collaboration and others, as part of an international effort to hand search the world's journals and create an unbiased source of data for systematic reviews.

Conference Board Research Collection, The (Conference Board) - research is a searchable Collection of full-text research reports on the latest issues in business management and US and global economics. Proprietary, nonbiased research includes studies of F500 companies on business trends, leadership decisions, performance excellence, corporate governance, HR, productivity, CRM and more. Full-text coverage from 1998 to date.Economics material includes topline US and global economic indicators and analysis and forecasts of regional, national, and international economic conditions.

Contemporary Literary Criticism (InfoTRAC) - An extensive collection of critical essays on contemporary writers. Each entry also contains a biographical/critical introduction, a list of principal works, and sources for further study.

CorpTech "Explore" Database of U.S. Companies - 94,500 high-technology companies, listings for 287,000 key executives, Internet Pages and e-mail addresses, detailed product lines, import/export information, employment trends.

CQ Researcher - is a collection of reports on controversial issues of current significance. The reports offer topic overviews and background information, opposing viewpoint essays, and much more. The database contains reports dating back to 1991.

CQ Weekly Online - offers weekly analysis of news from Capital Hill as well as Congressional roll call votes. CQ Weekly claims it is “the choice of 95% of members of Congress.” Nevertheless, its articles are written in lay language and are easily understood by those of us living outside the beltway. The database contains information dating back to 1983.

Criminal Justice Abstracts (CAS) - contains comprehensive coverage of international journals, books, reports, dissertations and unpublished papers on criminology and related disciplines.

DAAI (CSA) - The Design and Applied Arts Index contains over 130,000 annotated references from more than 500 design and craft journals and newspapers published from 1973 onwards, and data on over 50,000 designers, craftspeople, studios, workshops, firms etc. Research articles are covered, along with topical news items, conference and seminar reports, and book, video and exhibition reviews. DAAI also includes two supplementary databases: Education Directory, an international directory of universities and colleges that offer courses in design and craft subjects, and Periodicals Directory, an international directory of design and craft journals. Dissertations & Abstracts (ProQuest) - with more than 2 million entries, PQD&T is the single, central, authoritative resource for information about doctoral dissertations and master's theses. Dissertations published from 1980 forward include 350- word abstracts written by the author. Master's theses published from 1988 forward include 150-word abstracts. Titles available as native or image PDF formats include free twenty-four page previews. UMI offers over 1.8 million titles for purchase in microform, paper or electronic formats.

EconLit (EBSCO) - from the American Economic Association, is the world's foremost source of references to economic literature with citations and abstracts to economic research dating back to 1969. It provides comprehensive information on accounting, capital markets, econometrics, economic forecasting, government regulations, labor economics, monetary theory, urban economics and much more. Full text of many economics journals can be accessed in ABI/INFORM Global and J-STOR.

Educators Desk Reference (Open Access) - is maintained by the Educational Resources Information Center, a part of the Information Institute of Syracuse at Syracuse University. The site includes most of the information formerly included in AskERIC, including a database of over 2000 lesson plans for grades K-12 and high education.

Educator's Reference Complete (Gale/InfoTRAC) - is a selection of more than 450 full-text academic journals, hundreds of full-text reports, and many premier reference sources. Included content focuses on educational principles, child development and psychology, and best practices in education.

Electric Library (ProQuest) - a comprehensive reference tool providing access to hundreds of popular magazines and scholarly journals. Other sources include newspapers, photographs, maps, TV and radio scripts, and general reference resources.

Emerald Fulltext - 40,000+ searchable articles from over 100 Emerald journals. Subjects covered include management, HRM, marketing, librarianship, mechanical engineering, electronic and electrical engineering. Key journals include: European Journal of Marketing, Management Decision, International Journal of Operations & Production Management.

Engineering Village 2 - provides access to Compendex (Engineering Index online) beginning in 1884.

Entrez, The Life Sciences Search Engine (National Center for Biotechnology Information) - Provides access to searching individual databases (such as PubMed, PubMed Central, OMIN, Human Genome, GenBank) or to searching across all the NCBI databases simultaneously.

ERIC (EBSCO) - offers access to many full-text journal articles as well as full-text ERIC documents available on Department of Education web site. Students and faculty wishing to conduct advanced searches will likely find this version easier to use than the open access version. Users also have access to some full-text journal articles not available through the Department of Education. However, as of July 2005 this version does not include 2005 ERIC documents or journals. The most current information may be searched through the open access database. Also, please note that ERIC discontinued the production of ED microfiche. ED 483 046 is the last document available on microfiche.

ERIC (Open Access) - is a "free" web-based version of ERIC sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. It contains nearly 1.1 million citations to ERIC documents (ED references) and journal articles (EJ references). ERIC also provides users with access to an increasing number of full-text documents. ERIC includes material from 1966 to the present.

Ethnic NewsWatch (ProQuest) - is an interdisciplinary, bilingual (English and Spanish) and comprehensive full text database of newspapers, magazines and journals from ethnic, minority and native presses. This current database begins its coverage in 1990. (Access provided by the MBLC)

GenderWatch (ProQuest) - A full text database of unique and diverse publications that focus on how gender impacts a broad spectrum of subject areas. With its archival material, dating back to 1970 in some cases, GenderWatch is a repository of an important historical perspective on the evolution of the women's movement and the changes in gender roles.

General BusinessFile ASAP (Gale/InfoTRAC) - contains 415+ general business magazine, 315+ full-text publications, focusing on company news, business and management topics. Includes directory listings for over 150,000 companies as well as investment analysts' reports on major companies and industries.

Healthy People 2010 - Healthy People 2010 provides a framework for prevention for the Nation. It is a statement of national health objectives designed to identify the most significant preventable threats to health and to establish national goals to reduce these threats.

Hispanic American Periodicals Index - HAPI (UCLA Latin American Center) - The Hispanic American Periodicals Index includes articles on subjects relating to Hispanics in the United States and Latin American subjects. Coverage begins in 1970. Also consider using the Handbook of Latin American Studies from the Library of Congress.

Historical Abstracts (EBSCO) - Historical Abstracts provides in depth coverage to a large number of journal articles in modern history, which it defines as since 1450. It covers all area of the world except the United States and Canada, which are covered by America History and Life. Coverage begins in 1954. Abstracts are provided for most citations.

Hoover's Company Records (ProQuest) - Find up to date proprietary editorial content covering more than 40,000 public and non-public companies and 225,000 key executives. Hoover's, widely recognized as a leading provider of corporate data, delivers in depth industry analyses, information on a company's location, summary financials, top competitors, top officers, and more.

Humanities Index (H.W.Wilson) - Humanities Index is the basic periodical index in the humanities, including literature, history, archaeology, gender studies, and philosophy. It indexes the content of about 300 journals, mostly in English. The electronic version begins in 1984; older articles must be searched in the paper index in the library.

JSTOR - is a full-text online collection of core scholarly journals from their first issues (some date back to the 1800's) to between two and five years prior to the present. Subject coverage includes education, history, literature, mathematics, philosophy, anthropology, Asian studies, economics, population studies, sociology and botany and ecology. The journals can be browsed by journal issue or searched by keywords, topics, titles, authors and dates. LRC is a completely full-text database that combines information from over 1,000 books and monographs, major literary encyclopedias and reference works, hundreds of literary journals, and unique sources not available anywhere else.

Massachusetts Special Collections Directory - "A database of over 600 archives and manuscript collections in Massachusetts."

MassChip - Massachusetts Community Health Information Profile (Massachusetts Department of Public Health) -- provides data at the city or town level, "to access health needs, monitor health status indicators, and evaluate health programs." One of the two options, Instant Reports, is available from the library's workstations. This option gives basic data at the community level (i.e. smoking in Fall River ). Custom Reports, more detailed, are available only to those who download the MassCHIP client into their own computer-this is not possible in the library.

MathSciNet - Mathematical Reviews on the Web (American Mathematical Society) - "provides searching of over 59 years of Mathematical Reviews and Current Mathematical Publications."

Medline (EBSCO) - MEDLINE provides authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences, and much more. Created by the National Library of Medicine, MEDLINE uses MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) indexing with tree numbers, tree hierarchy and explosion capabilities to search abstracts from over 4,600 current biomedical journals.

MEDLINEplus (National Library of Medicine) - Provided by the National Library of Medicine for the layperson who wants to research health questions. Includes information on specific health topics, full-text publications, dictionaries, newsletters, and directories.

Mental Measurements Yearbook (EBSCO) - from the Buros Institute, contains the most recent descriptive information and critical reviews of new and revised tests from the Buros Institute's 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th Yearbooks. The database covers more than 2,200 commercially-available tests in categories such as personality, developmental, behavioral assessment, neuropsychological, achievement, intelligence and aptitude, educational, speech & hearing, and sensory motor. Each entry includes test name and classification; author(s); publisher, publication date; price; time requirements; score descriptions; levels; and intended populations. ( Updated every six months)

Mergent Online - a comprehensive global company database, both U.S. public and international public-equivalent companies, includes details on items from SEC filings such as business description, history, property, subsidiaries, officers and directors, long-term debt and capital stock. Financial statements are presented in "as-reported" form and in native currencies. Search by company name or ticker symbol, or search across all global boundaries to find companies that match specific financial and/or textual search criteria. Use Company Analysis feature to compile reports on selected companies.

Mintel - Mintel offers market research reports covering US and International marketplaces. Each report combines data & analysis of the competitive landscape, market-share analysis and consumer profiles. Complex demographic issues are broken into easy-to-understand sections, explaining consumer behavior and demonstrating the structure of the market. MLA International Bibliography (EBSCO) - is an index of journal articles, books and dissertations. Produced by the Modern Language Association, the electronic version of the Bibliography dates back to 1963 and contains over 1.5 million citations from more than 4,400 journals and series and 1,000 book publishers. Coverage is international and subjects include literature, language and linguistics, folklore, literary theory & criticism, dramatic arts, as well as the historical aspects of printing and publishing. Listings on rhetoric and composition and the history, theory and practice of teaching language and literature are also included.

National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS) - “is a federally funded resource offering justice and substance abuse information to support research, policy, and program development worldwide.” This “free” web-based database offers access to many full-text publications as well as citations and abstracts to additional journal articles and reports. Remember to check the library's holdings if NCJRS only provides a citation and abstract. Use the library's Interlibrary Loan service to obtain articles and reports not owned by the library.

National Newspapers (ProQuest) - Coverage of 9 major US newspapers including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Christian Science Monitor, USA TODAY, Boston Globe and the Atlanta Journal/Constitution.

NBER WORKING PAPERS (National Bureau of Economic Research) - The NBER is the nation's leading nonprofit economic research organization. Nearly 700 NBER Working Papers are published each year, and many subsequently appear in scholarly journals. JSTOR - is a full-text online collection of core scholarly journals from their first issues (some date back to the 1800's) to between two and five years prior to the present. The journals can be browsed by journal issue or searched by keywords, topics, titles, authors and dates. CQ Researcher - is a collection of reports on controversial issues of current significance. The reports offer topic overviews and background information, opposing viewpoint essays, and much more. The database contains reports dating back to 1991.

CQ Weekly Online - offers weekly analysis of news from Capital Hill as well as Congressional roll call votes. CQ Weekly claims it is “the choice of 95% of members of Congress.” Nevertheless, its articles are written in lay language and are easily understood by those of us living outside the beltway. The database contains information dating back to 1983.

Dissertations & Abstracts (ProQuest) - with more than 2 million entries, PQD&T is the single, central, authoritative resource for information about doctoral dissertations and master's theses. Dissertations published from 1980 forward include 350- word abstracts written by the author. Master's theses published from 1988 forward include 150-word abstracts. Literary Reference Center - LRC (EBSCO) - is a comprehensive literary reference database, which provides users with a broad spectrum of reference information from antiquity to the present day.
