Too tired to return library materials?
Mobile Computing Loan Program begins
Library Associates Holiday Program, 12/18
The UMass Dartmouth Library Associates will present a holiday program at 4 p.m., December 18, in the Recital Hall (Room 153) of the Performing and Visual Arts Building (Group VI).
Dr. Richard J. Ward, retired dean of the College of Business, will read from his book Grampas Are For All Seasons, and will talk about the process of writing the book. Also on the program is vocalist Nancy Overlock, who will perform several songs. Refreshments will be provided and there will be a raffle to benefit the library.
For more information, call Associates president Dr. Mel Yoken at 508-999-8335.
Printing Policies
During the past year, both the Library and CITS (Computer and Information Technology Services) have experienced significant increases in printing. Working together, staff in both areas have established new printing guidelines that take into account the widespread use and availability of online full-text databases and electronic reserves.
- Printing will not be limited.
- During busy periods, students may be asked to send print jobs 20 pages at a time in order to permit individuals with shorter documents to get into the printing queue.
- Only Library/CITS paper may be used in the printers.
- Copies will be limited to 2 copies per person.
Library and CITS staff will develop campaigns to increase user awareness of the cost and waste caused by careless printing.

Too tired to return your library materials?
There's a new and convenient way to return your books to the University Library: a drive-up book return receptacle has been installed at the end of the library's access road. When the weather's bad, when it's dark, or when you just don't feel like walking into the library, simply deposit your books and other library materials (videos, CDs and cassettes) at the book return.
For more information, contact Catherine Fortier-Barnes, 508-999-8665 or email

Mobile Computing Loan Program
The Mobile Computing Loan Program is open for service. Offered by LSIRT (Library Services, Information Resources and Technology), this pilot project is designed to enhance the university community’s access to computer and network technology.
Students, faculty and staff (with valid UMass Pass) may borrow a limited number of laptops and portable projectors. The equipment is available from the library’s first floor circulation desk.
The Mobile Computing Loan Program (MCLP) is one of 13 technology projects developed with funding through the state’s Information Technology initiative.
For telephone inquiries, call MCLP at 508-999-8856. For more detailed information and a list of frequently asked questions about the program, visit the MCLP web site , or contact Peggy Dias at 508-999-8791 or Catherine Fortier-Barnes at 508-999-8665.

The Mobile Computing Loan Program makes laptops and other devices available to UMD students, faculty and staff.
Missing Volumes project
We know we must have a number of people here at UMass Dartmouth who regularly read contemporary fiction: authors such as Alice Adams, Doris Grumbach, Brian Moore, James Purdy, and many more. The University Library needs your help in adding some missing volumes to our collection.
The library has a very fine collection of Modern North American Literary Authors, authors writing from the late 50s to present and representing the finest efforts in creative writing. This collection is one of the true long-term assets of our library.
While we have complete coverage of most literary authors’ prose works, we do have some gaps. We would like to ask the university community to help us fill those gaps.
Most of the items on the list are hard to find and typically represent the earliest works of the author. Many items were published before the library was actively purchasing materials in the humanities. We appreciate your interest and feedback in our "missing volumes project."
Please direct any questions and donations to: Bruce Barnes, Librarian, Collection Development at 508-999-8666.
Library Associates make donation
Dr. Mel Yoken, president of the Library Associates, presented a check for $4,000 to the library at the group’s October 7 event that featured experimental writer Robert Coover.
The gift will be applied to the library’s Archives Renovation Fund, to advance the relocation and renovation of the Archives and Special Collections.
Staff news
Elizabeth Lindsay, reference librarian, will leave the library at the end of December to take a new position as Head of Instruction at the Washington State University Libraries.
